Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Ocular Coherence Tomography is a very advanced and specialised medical technique.
The OCT scanner uses light energy to generate scans of microscopic tissue within your eye. Our OCT scanner can generate images of both the anterior (front) and posterior (back) ocular surface.
This technology is incredibly useful in the early diagnosis of disease, as well as the continued monitoring of certain conditions such as glaucoma or macular degeneration.
Both three dimensional (map) scans can be generated as well as high definition scans through a section of tissue (line scans). The trend analysis feature allows us to compare scans from all previous appointments. In this way we can monitor for and detect subtle changes. As with all areas of medical care, early detection often facilitates early treatment and can lead to more positive health outcomes.
Not all Optometrists have this technology. At Wanganui Eyecare, we remain committed to providing the highest level of eyecare for you and your family.
