A few years ago, a new graduate position opened up in Wanganui and I was presented with a foundation career. I was fairly dubious about this little place, especially the urban life I would be leaving behind.
To my surprise, Wanganui proved to be a humming town with a personality of its own. Even now, I feel very fortunate to have been welcomed into a community with such a warm and friendly nature. A few years, a partner and one cat later I now call Wanganui my home.
What attracts me most about Optometry is our ability to provide solutions of genuine benefit to people in their everyday lives. In more recent years, our role in the healthcare sector has expanded, and I particularly enjoy the challenges involved in emerging specialised areas.
I have a keen interest in both dry-eye treatment technology and medical management, as well as the advances in short-sight control we offer to children through our Myopia Clinic. As an endorsed medicines prescriber, I use prescription oral and topical medicines to treat eye infection and disease.
Recently, I have developed an interest in horticulture and spend a lot of time outdoors. Apparently, this also extends to an interest in farm animals; after being gifted with two sick lambs a few months ago Peaches and Woolington are now very vocal members of the home.
I am passionate about healthy living, health and fitness and am always keen to give something new a go. One day I’ll make it up to the mountain!
