CAA, Maritime & Police Examinations
A number of our Optometrists are approved examiners for the Civil Aviation Authority, Maritime Vocations and for Police Examinations.
Civil Aviation Authority Vision Examinations:
The Civil Aviation Authority has very stringent requirements for those wishing to obtain Class 1, 2 or 3 licences. Our CAA Optometrist is an approved examiner for all classes.
- Class 1: Commercial Pilots
- Class 2: Private Licence Pilots
- Class 3: Air Traffic Control Officers
Civil Aviation Examinations are one hour in duration and require a dilated fundus exam. This means we put drops into your eye to enlarge the pupil. You may need to bring someone to drive you home. Please make every effort to bring your Photo Identification card to the examination.
Maritime Vision Examinations:
Our Optometrist provides certified vision examination for standard levels of The Nautical Certificate. These include:
- Local Launch Operator (LLO)
- Certified Deckhand
- Engineering Certificates
- Advanced Deckhand
- Inshore Launchmasters (ILM)
We refer exernally for those requiring specialised Colour Vision testing such as the Begat test. . Please make every effort to bring your Photo Identification card to the examination.
NZ Police Vision Examinations:
All Optometrists at Wanganui Eyecare are approved Level 1 Police Examiners. The NZ police have strict standards on vision required, both with and without glasses or contact lenses. You must also have ‘normal’ colour vision.
If you have had Laser Eye Surgery you will require a Level 2 Examination; we refer externally for this.
